The problem
A European buyer needed cover for a 48-metre run with a 5-metre projection. That is not a stock folding-arm or cassette awning; those sizes stop far smaller. They were searching China for a commercial retractable awning, motorized retractable canopy, or retractable PVC roof — custom size, aluminum frame, waterproof fabric — and getting mixed quotes: patio awnings, pergolas that would not join into 48 m, missing drawings, and unclear motor / wind / CE paperwork for EU import. Visiting every factory themselves would have cost another trip and another month.
What we did
We treated it as a custom retractable canopy project, not a catalog SKU. We shortlisted factories that build large-span folding-roof / retractable pergola systems (modular bays that join), not residential arm awnings. The spec included a folding PVC roof and LED strips in each bay. We collected a drawing for 48 m × 5 m, fabric and profile samples, and the export file (CE / declaration of performance, packing list) so the shipment could clear. Production was checked on site — lengths, joins, motors, fabric — then packed as one consignment. The client did not have to fly back for a second sampling round.
Result
The client finished installation on site and was satisfied with the fit. The 48 m × 5 m custom retractable canopy is in use in Europe. Other local customers have already started enquiring about the same system. One order, one shipment, no second factory visit — which is the usual way this kind of project stays on time and on budget.
